Houchen for Congress: Statement on HC Vote_3-21-10

March 22, 2010

Dear Fellow Americans;

In the evening hours of 21 March 2010, Speaker Pelosi’s House of Representatives voted for passage of not just Federal government CONTROL of the American Health Care sector but, in doing so also voted to cement the foundations of the Progressive central-planning collectivist ideology that an overwhelming majority of Americans have voiced opposition to. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele reiterated what I have been saying throughout Eastern Oklahoma and across as much of America as possible for almost a year: “The problem has been…that the Leadership has not listened. This Administration, this Congress has not listened to what people wanted.” Does anyone doubt that if the peoples’ elected representatives had voted the will of their constituency that this bill wouldn’t have passed? What occurred today provides definitive proof of what I stated back in June of 2009; “American governance is busted…and it needs new batteries.”

While I do not believe today’s vote represents the absolute final say on whether or not America turns to socialized health care, and all the other central-planning mechanisms that are contained in this unconstitutional and un-American piece of legislation, I do believe it signals a hazardous change of direction that America is not meant to travel and will place us in perils not yet fully contemplated that will undo, forever, the intent and purpose of our Founding Principles. To paraphrase Sen. Jim DeMint from a statement at around 4:00 pm CST: This is a wholly unworthy process for a free people.

While I have always held on to hope that this day would not come, whereby our elected officials overtly and arrogantly ignored the unmistakable will of the citizenry, we have prepared the Houchen for Congress campaign to deal with such a blow to individual and economic freedom by the Pelosi House. On 14 January 2010, I signed the “Repeal It Pledge! that was initiated by The Club for Growth which stated very simply: “I, Howard Houchen, hereby pledge to the people of OK-D2 upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives, to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.” To date, the only Oklahoma Republicans who have signed that pledge are Sen. Tom Coburn, Rep. Tom Cole, Rep. John Sullivan, Republican House Candidate (OK-05) Kevin Calvey, and Howard Houchen. Note: Not a single Oklahoma Democrat (legislator or candidate), has signed this pledge to overturn socialized medicine…Dan Boren included.

Over the past several days I have called the offices of representatives Jerry Costello (D-IL), Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA), Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Steve Driehaus (D-OH), Brad Ellsworth (D-IN), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Dale Kildee (D-MI), Dan Lipinski (D-IL), Jim Oberstar (D-MN), Charlie Wilson (D-OH), and Bart Stupak (D-MI). I called Rep. Boren’s office twice to recommend he take to the floor and publicly denounce this piece of catastrophic legislation and urge colleagues to do what is mandated of them and vote the will of the constituents they represent. Clearly our attempts as “mere citizens” to be represented by our officials in government no longer is worthy of their attention. This current state of affairs must not be allowed to stand!

I have made the solemn vow to turn back the encroachments of federal government on individual liberties and economic freedom…today’s vote only serves to strengthen that resolve. America is far too special and deserves far greater than what now guides her course. I will fight for the voice of Eastern Oklahomans to be heard at all times and will fight for the future of the America we know is possible and not settle for anything less than an environment of Freedom and Constitutional adherence.

We must fight for freedom as if Lady Liberty herself were in jeopardy…because she is!!!

Thank you and may God Bless us all,

 Howard Houchen Republican

Candidate U.S. House of Representatives

Oklahoma District 2

Helping out at Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

March 10, 2010

Below is a company Release concerning our part in Extrem Makeover: Home Edition,

Local’s Contribute to Home Makeover:

(Hugo, OK. 3-10-10). All American Garage Doors, INC., of tiny Blue Ridge Texas, owned by Hugo native David Davis and whose Operations Manager is Howard Houchen of Hugo, recently participated in ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in Mineola.  The company served as VIP contractor in manufacturing, donating, and installing 2 Hand-Crafted Custom Garage Doors for the project and family.  Owners, David and Lanette Davis, and the AAGD staff, were not surprised to have been chosen over larger, more nationally recognized, garage door companies:  “We have never really advertised but have always provided a good, solid product that is capable of competing with anyone in the business and it has paid off” Houchen said in an interview.

The company manufactured and installed 2 custom insulated cedar garage doors in the newly built home on Tuesday evening.  AAGD was recognized as being well organized and professional after installing the doors in well under the scheduled three hour time-frame that was allotted.  In just under an hour, David and AAGD Operations Manager, Howard Houchen, installed the doors and added hardware then turned their focus to assisting the crew from Overhead Door Systems, INC. of Tyler with the automatic operator installation.

The Davis family returned on Wednesday and Thursday to offer assistance in finishing the home out and to be on hand to “Move That Bus”.  The family and AAGD personnel were moved by the opportunity to help a family in need.

The show will air on May 9th in the 2 hour season finale.

Events of the past few days:

March 10, 2010

District 2 and Tulsa Meetings:

Yesterday, 9 March 2010, myself and several members of the Houchen for Congress team held some very productive, informative, and supportive meetings with individuals and groups throughout Eastern Oklahoma.

Guns Show in Delaware Co. (Grove):

The Houchen for Congress table was the center of activity at the Grove Gun Show on Saturday 6 March.  A large number of folks attended the event and great number of folks stopped by and visited with us about the campaign.  We gained quite a few supporters from this event and was able to speak with literally hundreds of Eastern Oklahoma citizens about our plan to take Oklahoma to Washington and stop the MANDATES from Washington.

The Lincoln / Reagan Dinner in Grove:

Saturday night was a very well attended event as well and I got a chance to meet up with some good folks and supporters I haven’t seen in several months since my last trip to Delaware Co.  Chairman Gay Jones spoke for a bit then the keynote address by Gubernatorial candidate and current Representative, Mary Fallin.

Claremore “New Day in America” breakfast:

Was held by the campaign went well on Saturday morning.  We had placed ads in the Claremore Daily Progress for this event and met quite a few new folks who are interested and see the need to replace Boren as Eastern Oklahoma’s representative and gained a few more Houchen for Congress supporters.

When Deceit Fails, Try Leading

March 4, 2010

Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of all things associated with campaigning, I question if I heard, read, or saw something in the fashion it was intended.  Every now and then I even question if it occurred at all.  This brings me to the following observational question(s):  Didn’t Barack Obama mention, several weeks back, something about “HIS” administration becoming more attentive and focused on economic matters and that the economy was priority NUMBER ONE?  I thought he did…just double-checkin’.  What have we, the people, been inundated with over 90% of the time, since that announcement?  Hmmm…an increased push and focus on HEALTH CONTROL!!!  For like the 7 th. time in the last 10 months.

Sure, we had some of the BILLIONS in unspent and unconstitutional stimulus funds diverted to a really nifty titled “Jobs Bill” (wait…wasn’t the stimulus itself supposed to create all those shovel ready jobs so unemployment wouldn’t go above 8%?).  The focus is still the same no matter how the deception is packaged – increase the central-planning nature and scope and reach of OUR federal government.

I have written many articles about the foundational purpose of this administration’s HEALTH CONTROL proposal and said from the very beginning its purpose was not helping people (that’s always the disguise), rather it was about helping government entrench itself, like a leech or some other parasite, into the lives of individuals and decisions of business.  The continued rabid push for HEALTH CONTROL in the midst of American economic decay illuminates the arrogant and deceptive nature of this ruling regime and highlights where THEIR priorities differ from OUR priorities.

Today’s unemployment numbers (first-time filers for unemployment benefits) are being touted as something positive by the majority of the media accounts I am observing…imagine that.  Just look over the numbers though…first-time filers declined by 29,000 while extended benefit recipients climbed by 200,000 over last week!!!  I guess these are the same folks who are able to understand the “job saved or created” formula.

Members of the House–Members of the Senate–Mr. President, and all of your BRILLIANT czars and advisors: It’s The Economy!!!  Look…normally I wouldn’t offer advice like this but, these are not normal times.  You would have a much better shot at getting HEALTH CONTROL if economic conditions were rosy and folks saw that economic growth was not only sustainable but might even be capable of producing a surplus every now and then.

American citizens want jobs and they want to say and believe they have confidence in government getting out-of-the-way of free-market principles and let Americans do what we do best – prosper!  Cut corporate tax rates and quit trying to implement policies and introducing regulations.  This will help alleviate the business community’s fears of YOU taking more of  what WE produce.  Cut personal income tax rates immediately and introduce a consumption-based (Fair Tax) tax system that is actually FAIR and implemented equally.  The unequal confiscation of OUR property by YOU is determined by YOU, not we, the people.  Is that how America was designed to function?

All of you with Progressive (to be read as statist or socialist) tendencies, you really aren’t that bright.  The arrogance is no longer capable of being cached by repetitive talking points and teleprompter readings to elementary school kids.  The perception-deception tactics are really getting old and we can see and smell them coming long before you actually trot their tired old bones out before us.  So…stop pushing so hard for CONTROL.   We are the one’s who are supposed to have that job and We are about to start pushing back.
