Houchen says Sen. Ellis Presents SB1327 as Something It Is NOT

May 8, 2012

Also available in The McCarville Report: http://mccarvillereport.com/archives/5490

SB1327 is a bad bill for SE Oklahoma and does little to nothing to ensure we have a voice.

05 May 2012 (Hugo, OK) — Oklahoma Senate District 5 challenger, Howard Houchen, states:  “Senator Ellis says he wants to strengthen local control but in advocating for passage of SB1327, he is doing exactly the opposite!”

Sen. Ellis has made a hearty endorsement of the House amendment to Senate Bill 1327 but the changes made to this bill can hardly be thought of as an amendment.   SB1327 was actually gutted and replaced l with the language of another measure, HB2914.  HB2914, the “Regional Water Planning Act” was a highly problematic bill intended to create nine regional councils to manage Oklahoma’s water planning which would add another layer of government onto the already profoundly complex issue of water rights and water management.  The amended SB1327 now mandates the establishment of nine Regional Councils to manage our water.

Sen. Ellis is particularly pleased with the alteration to SB1327 that would require the members of these new Regional Councils be elected rather than appointed and to Sen. Ellis’ credit, if we are going to add yet another authority to manage our water resources, then indeed, some representation is better than none.  But this does not mean, as Sen. Ellis says, “the interests and needs of local communities would have representation in the decision making process.”  Source: The McCarville Report May 2, 2012
Oklahomans should know that SB1327 stipulates that the role of the Regional Council is advisory only.  They have no regulatory authority or any other authority.    This means that the Regional Councils do not have the power necessary to represent the people in any real sense.
“I believe Ellis’ intentions are good”, says Houchen,  “but he is totally missing the fact that regional management of our water resources will inevitably make the decision making process less local, not more.”

The powerless Regional Councils do have a mandate to fulfill, however.  This bill, supported by Ellis, requires the Regional Councils adhere to the ever evolving Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan as a guide for their recommendations on the water management of the nine regions, as has been predetermined by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board.

This is a terrible trade off according to Howard Houchen who explains that his campaign is invested in carefully examining the water issues that face Oklahoma .  “Right now our cities and counties have quite a bit of power when it comes to the water policy decision making process.   I am worried that by establishing these Regional Councils our local governments will end up being mere administrators of the OWRB’s plans and that is not representative government.”

The entire reason for the creation of these Regional Councils comes directly from the 2012 Update to the Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan which recommended that the Legislature authorize the creation of regional planning groups.    No matter how the Council members are chosen, elected or otherwise, the constraints remain the same.  The Regional Councils will follow the dictates of the Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan, a plan that has been soundly criticized by many including Sen. Ellis himself.
Sen. Ellis is to be applauded for his concern for adequate representation of the citizen however, dividing the state into nine new political voting regions is not the answer. Do we really need to be so hasty to enact such a drastic alteration of our traditional government structure?

If Sen. Ellis has so little faith in the statewide plan why would he support a measure that will create a mandate that effectively binds water management throughout the state to the plan?  This does not provide the constituents of SD5 or any Oklahomans with the representation that they need and deserve.
It is clear that If we continue on the path that Sen.  Ellis is endorsing, Oklahomans can expect to have less control over their natural resources, not more.

Houchen Announces Candidacy for Oklahoma State Senate – District 5

April 13, 2012

Howard Houchen Announces Candidacy for Oklahoma State Senate

13 April, 2012 (Hugo, OK) – Howard Houchen, a former U.S. Congressional candidate from Hugo, Oklahoma, is very pleased to announce his campaign to represent the good folks of Oklahoma Senate District 5 in the upcoming election.

Houchen, a 4thgeneration “Okie”, is a successful small businessman and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Political Science and a Masters degree in National Security Studies from American Military University.  He is a devoted husband and father that has built a solid reputation as a grassroots leader but feels compelled to do more, stating that;

“I have called SE Oklahoma home my entire life.  There is no doubt we are the “Heart” of the heartland.  I have witnessed the increasing encroachment of government into our private lives and businesses, to the detriment of us in rural communities. We have seen jobs leave and populations decline throughout much of this district.  After so many calls for me to seek this position, there is no way I can just stand idly by and simply watch as Oklahoma City carves away at our ability to sustain and promote individual liberty and personal responsibility in the place we call home.”

Howard Houchen is well known in Oklahoma for his outspoken support of legislation which protects Life, Liberty, and Property while being very active in informing and resisting, and even defeating, legislation that threatens the freedoms of all Oklahomans and does not cater to party politics.  He stated:

“What is right is right and what is wrong, is wrong; regardless which party proposes the legislation. In 2012 and beyond, District 5 will be facing critical issues such as natural resources, property rights, job creation and retention, and just plain having a voice in how we govern ourselves.  How we handle these issues may make or break the livelihoods of many in this area, it is my duty to do everything in my power to make sure that these issues are handled with the citizens of District 5 best interests in mind.”

Houchen looks forward to an active campaign as an opportunity to better know his neighbors in SD5 and fully understand their concerns more deeply so that he can help produce and support the best solutions possible, as their State Senator, and actively resist those actions which are not. “It is time to return to government ‘of, by and for ‘We the People’

Oklahoma Senate District 5 is comprised of the entirety of McCurtain, Pushmataha, and Choctaw counties and the southern portion of LeFlore County and the eastern portion of Atoka County.  “The ultimate “stakeholder” in our system of government is we, the citizens.  Not special interest groups, not lobbyist, and certainly not politicians. I look forward to hearing from as many citizens in SD5 as possible so we can all work together to realize the prosperous future we and our children deserve.”

Thoughts on Thomas Jefferson Memorial “Dance Party”: It’s about the Snake!

June 8, 2011

                      08 June, 2011

This past Saturday, 04 June 2011, my son and I happened to be in Washington D.C.  The timing coincided with the second installment of what is termed: “Dance Party at TJ’s”.  These public displays of dance are in protest of a Supreme Court ruling which upheld a United States Park Service regulation outlawing public-displays of this nature in certain areas of public property.  The Jefferson Memorial rotunda was at the center of this decision.  The first “Dance Party at TJ’s” resulted in multiple arrests and very heavy-handed tactics in carrying out those arrests by Park Service Police.

This second “Dance Party at TJ’s” was a direct result of how the first was handled.  I will admit, as the “dancing” began it was a bit awkward.  Personally, I enjoy and believe in adhering to the intended reverence a memorial denotes.  Then, in a matter of but a few moments, a soothing calm erased the feeling awkwardness.  As I watched this disparate group — all ages, both sexes, many cultural and racial backgrounds, all across the political spectrum, varying social and economic backgrounds — performing, in what was admittedly a bit unseemly and raucous  dance moves (nothing lewd, mind you – just what would “normally” be deemed “inappropriate”…if that is possible give that this was an “abnormal” situation), I gazed toward the face of Jefferson.

At this moment in time the Jefferson Memorial was home to scores of U.S. Park Police, S.W.A.T., uniformed officers with what appeared to M-4 automatic weapons, uniformed officers in riot gear, mounted police (both horse and motorcycle) what I’ll call “plain-clothes dudes”.  All there to…???

Just above the head of the Thomas Jefferson statue, inscribed around the bottom of the dome, I re-read the words of Jefferson: “I have sworn up0n the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man”.  I looked back at the dancing crowd…gazed toward Jefferson…immediately thought of Voltaire’s influence on Jefferson and the Voltaire quote paraphrased by Jefferson: I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”   Another scan of the “dancing” group was all it took…the Spirit of Jefferson was all around.  He was smiling from the Heavens above.  This was what FREEDOM looked like!

No arrests were made and “Victory” was the mood of the participants.  The main stream media wrote opinions both for and against the actions of the “dancers”.  Leonard Pitts Jr., in the Kansas City Star, wrote:  “So what’s most offensive about these arrests for crimes of Terpsichore is not the insult to free expression, but the insult to common sense, the implied assumption that unless some guy waving his arms around is thrown to the ground and handcuffed, the rest of us will indulge our secret desire to do the Macarena in the temple of Lincoln.  There is something heavy-handed and totalitarian in that assumption” http://www.kansascity.com/2011/06/07/2930499/commentary-when-dancing-is-a-federal.html

Petula Dvorak, in the Washington Post, wrote:  “I’ll admit I was skeptical, too, given that there are greater things at risk in America these days.  Wait. Wasn’t that the stuff that got said about the kite-ins in 1970? And yet, we’d all probably agree that those arrests look preposterous in hindsight.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dancers-at-the-jefferson-memorial-are-following-in-the-footsteps-of-hippie-kite-fliers/2011/06/02/AGkp7bHH_story_1.html

And Eva Rodriquez, in the Washington Post, wrote:  “Before last weekend, I wouldn’t have thought to associate “liberal” dance protestors with “conservative” gun rights advocates. But they actually have a lot in common: a profoundly distorted – and patently wrong – understanding of their constitutional rights.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/post/what-gun-and-dance-enthusiasts-have-in-common/2011/06/06/AGXJRMKH_blog.html?fb_ref=NetworkNews

In the end, it really doesn’t matter what was written or covered by todays press…what matters is adherence to the intent and purpose of OUR founding.  That intent, that purpose, was inscribed above the head of Jefferson and can be found in other words of Jefferson:  “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty, than those attending too small a degree of it.” AND “After all, if freedom of speech means anything, it means a willingness to stand and let people say things with which we disagree, and which do weary us considerably”

What are the “Dance Parties at TJ’s” REALLY all about?  It’s about the rattle-snake as illustrated on the Gadsden Flag…”Don’t Tread On Me”.  It’s about the warning system Benjamin Franklin wrote of when describing the symbolism of the rattlesnake on the flag:  “She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. … she never wounds ’till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.”  Notice was the purpose…We, the people of these United States of America know what Freedom looks like and what we are experiencing today is NOT recognizable! NOTICE!

Rep. Dan Boren’s INEXCUSABLE Action on 9-29-10

September 29, 2010

Mr. Blued-Hog himself, OUR illustrious member of the Ruling Class in Washington, Dan Boren, has done it again – REAL GOOD ONE THIS TIME!

In a 210 – 209 vote, OUR U.S. House of Representatives voted to adjourn the House without EVEN CONSIDERING extension of tax-cuts (called the Bush Tax-Cuts).  Guess how OUR main-stream-media and self-described Blued-Hog Rep voted?  You know, the guy who runs around claiming to be all “I’m a fiscal conservative and I think we have too much government and too much spending and too many taxes…”, Mr. Dan Boren voted FOR adjournment while 39 fellow Dems (fellow Enablers) voted with Repubs to discuss the tax-cuts issue further.

Now, think about this…the vote was 210 to 209 for putting a nail in the extension tax cuts.  Two hundred and ten members of the Ruling Class have spoke for the entire country and they say we don’t want or need tax cuts!  Had Boren voted on his public rhetoric rather than his steadfast Progressive principle, the extension of tax-cuts would still be alive and well RIGHT NOW!

Single-handedly, OUR Representative in Washington – Mr. Dan Boren – has killed the possibility of a pro-business, pro-economic Freedom, less government piece of legislation.  DAN BOREN DID THIS!!!

Former U.S. Congressional Candidate Howard Houchen Set To Host Political Talk Show

(Paris, Texas) 20 August 2010 – As the lights started go out on Howard Houchen’s bid for U.S. Congress the lights were coming up on the set of Mr. Houchen’s new conservative political television show, The Road To Liberty. Venture Studios producer James Wyatt approached Mr. Houchen late in his campaign for Oklahoma’s 2nd District Congressional seat about the idea of hosting a conservative political talk show. Wyatt said, “I saw Howard had a unique quality that resonated with audiences on the campaign trail. His style and personality was something that we at Venture felt would translate very well to television.”

The thirty minute program, The Road To Liberty, is currently slated for thirteen episodes which has already begun filming at the Venture Studio’s facility. Guests from across the country will be featured each week discussing the topics of primary interest to conservative Americans. The show will be set apart from other programs of this type by Mr. Houchen’s demonstrated ability to relate the topics to everyday life and how government overstepping the bounds of our Founders’ intent is quickly taking this country off the intended path desired by the majority of Americans.

Mr. Houchen stated, “I’m really excited about the opportunity to continue reaching out to hard-working American citizens about the principles of constitutional conservatism, the proper role of government, and the absolute necessity of ensuring We, the people, check and roll back the powers of the political-class over the working-class”.  Houchen went on to say; “We are all Americans, it is our duty to protect and defend the rule book by which we are to govern ourselves…the U.S. Constitution.  To do anything less will lead to the demise of the greatest nation God ever blessed.”

Plans for the program include an initial launch in North Texas in several markets served by various cable providers. Negotiations will be ongoing during production for broadcast rights in Texas and Oklahoma markets and with satellite program providers for distribution to over 76,000,000 homes across the U.S. Viewers will also be able to watch and interact with the program at the website www.newroadtoliberty.com.

Rep. Dan Boren (D) OK-D2 will have NO Public TownHalls During the 6 Week Recess

August 10, 2010

It appears as if Mr. Blued-Hog himself (Rep. Dan Boren) will, once again, be holding NO Public invited Town Hall events in his district during this 6-week Congressional recess. No, Mr. “I Listen to the People” will instead be holding “Civic Meetings”. This information comes from his Washington office. The Boren Campaign office in Muskogee (excuse, me…his Congressional District office in Muskogee) said they are unaware of his schedule.

This “Civic Meetings” terminology is not new for Mr. Boren. In order to avoid actually facing people who may disagree with him or who actually have questions about many of his very-liberal votes in support of the Pelosi agenda, Mr. Boren travels the district (infrequently) to attend “invitation only” events. The Boren camp will call a town’s Chamber of Commerce, usually with less than 48 hour notice, and ask the Chamber to invite members as well as local civic clubs (Rotary, Lions, etc.) to a location where Mr. Boren will show up. These “civic meetings” will last from 45 minutes to an hour with no public notification, thus affording the general citizenry no opportunity to address their supposed Representative in Washington.

This Political-Class behavior has been evident for quite some time. Mr. Boren has held only three public Town Halls over the past year and all three of those were held during a single 8 hour period on a single day back in August 2009. Since that time Mr. Boren has done all he can to avoid scrutiny in public.

Once again the Political-Class call the shots and we, the working class, just let it slide right on by. After all, we are just the working-class…we are not worthy of our voices being heard in public.  Are we not ELITE enough to converse directly with the Political-Class?

Come on Mr. Boren, this behavior cannot be tolerated; You have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to convince the hard-working citizens of Eastern Oklahoma that you “Listen to the People” yet you offer no opportunity for this interaction to occur. Instead of “securing funds” (spending more of our money), please listen to We, the people.

Harris announce a joint primary election Watch Party to take place in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the Fairfield Inn & Suites.  Due to Congressional Candidate District 4 R.J. Therefore, Howard Houchen has invited R.J. Harris to a joint event, and Harris has accepted. Both men are constitutional, conservative Republicans who seek to serve our nation in U.S. Congress by following strictly the guidelines detailed in the Constitution by our nation’s founders and fight for individual Liberty while limiting government.

The joint Watch Party will take place July 27, from 6:30 until elections announcements are made in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the Fairfield Inns & Suites, Azalea Room. The event address is 1650 N. 32nd Street, in Muskogee (directly behind I.H.O.P. on HWY 69). There will be TV’s, wireless and wired internet, drinks, popcorn, food, and a lot fun!

Friends, Supporters, and Press are invited to attend. Howard Houchen, seeking the Republican nomination for US Congressional District 2, is engaged in a race against five other Republican contenders, while R.J. Harris is challenging Republican incumbent Cole to determine the next representative for OK-D4. RJ’s supporters in the 4th District who are unable to travel to Muskogee are encouraged to attend his campaign’s watch party being held at Earls Rib Palace in Moore, OK. Houchen for Congress: Statement on HC Vote_3-21-10

March 22, 2010

Dear Fellow Americans;

In the evening hours of 21 March 2010, Speaker Pelosi’s House of Representatives voted for passage of not just Federal government CONTROL of the American Health Care sector but, in doing so also voted to cement the foundations of the Progressive central-planning collectivist ideology that an overwhelming majority of Americans have voiced opposition to. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele reiterated what I have been saying throughout Eastern Oklahoma and across as much of America as possible for almost a year: “The problem has been…that the Leadership has not listened. This Administration, this Congress has not listened to what people wanted.” Does anyone doubt that if the peoples’ elected representatives had voted the will of their constituency that this bill wouldn’t have passed? What occurred today provides definitive proof of what I stated back in June of 2009; “American governance is busted…and it needs new batteries.”

While I do not believe today’s vote represents the absolute final say on whether or not America turns to socialized health care, and all the other central-planning mechanisms that are contained in this unconstitutional and un-American piece of legislation, I do believe it signals a hazardous change of direction that America is not meant to travel and will place us in perils not yet fully contemplated that will undo, forever, the intent and purpose of our Founding Principles. To paraphrase Sen. Jim DeMint from a statement at around 4:00 pm CST: This is a wholly unworthy process for a free people.

While I have always held on to hope that this day would not come, whereby our elected officials overtly and arrogantly ignored the unmistakable will of the citizenry, we have prepared the Houchen for Congress campaign to deal with such a blow to individual and economic freedom by the Pelosi House. On 14 January 2010, I signed the “Repeal It Pledge! that was initiated by The Club for Growth which stated very simply: “I, Howard Houchen, hereby pledge to the people of OK-D2 upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives, to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.” To date, the only Oklahoma Republicans who have signed that pledge are Sen. Tom Coburn, Rep. Tom Cole, Rep. John Sullivan, Republican House Candidate (OK-05) Kevin Calvey, and Howard Houchen. Note: Not a single Oklahoma Democrat (legislator or candidate), has signed this pledge to overturn socialized medicine…Dan Boren included.

Over the past several days I have called the offices of representatives Jerry Costello (D-IL), Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA), Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Steve Driehaus (D-OH), Brad Ellsworth (D-IN), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Dale Kildee (D-MI), Dan Lipinski (D-IL), Jim Oberstar (D-MN), Charlie Wilson (D-OH), and Bart Stupak (D-MI). I called Rep. Boren’s office twice to recommend he take to the floor and publicly denounce this piece of catastrophic legislation and urge colleagues to do what is mandated of them and vote the will of the constituents they represent. Clearly our attempts as “mere citizens” to be represented by our officials in government no longer is worthy of their attention. This current state of affairs must not be allowed to stand!

I have made the solemn vow to turn back the encroachments of federal government on individual liberties and economic freedom…today’s vote only serves to strengthen that resolve. America is far too special and deserves far greater than what now guides her course. I will fight for the voice of Eastern Oklahomans to be heard at all times and will fight for the future of the America we know is possible and not settle for anything less than an environment of Freedom and Constitutional adherence.

We must fight for freedom as if Lady Liberty herself were in jeopardy…because she is!!!

Thank you and may God Bless us all,

 Howard Houchen Republican

When Deceit Fails, Try Leading

March 4, 2010

Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of all things associated with campaigning, I question if I heard, read, or saw something in the fashion it was intended.  Every now and then I even question if it occurred at all.  This brings me to the following observational question(s):  Didn’t Barack Obama mention, several weeks back, something about “HIS” administration becoming more attentive and focused on economic matters and that the economy was priority NUMBER ONE?  I thought he did…just double-checkin’.  What have we, the people, been inundated with over 90% of the time, since that announcement?  Hmmm…an increased push and focus on HEALTH CONTROL!!!  For like the 7 th. time in the last 10 months.

Sure, we had some of the BILLIONS in unspent and unconstitutional stimulus funds diverted to a really nifty titled “Jobs Bill” (wait…wasn’t the stimulus itself supposed to create all those shovel ready jobs so unemployment wouldn’t go above 8%?).  The focus is still the same no matter how the deception is packaged – increase the central-planning nature and scope and reach of OUR federal government.

I have written many articles about the foundational purpose of this administration’s HEALTH CONTROL proposal and said from the very beginning its purpose was not helping people (that’s always the disguise), rather it was about helping government entrench itself, like a leech or some other parasite, into the lives of individuals and decisions of business.  The continued rabid push for HEALTH CONTROL in the midst of American economic decay illuminates the arrogant and deceptive nature of this ruling regime and highlights where THEIR priorities differ from OUR priorities.

Today’s unemployment numbers (first-time filers for unemployment benefits) are being touted as something positive by the majority of the media accounts I am observing…imagine that.  Just look over the numbers though…first-time filers declined by 29,000 while extended benefit recipients climbed by 200,000 over last week!!!  I guess these are the same folks who are able to understand the “job saved or created” formula.

Members of the House–Members of the Senate–Mr. President, and all of your BRILLIANT czars and advisors: It’s The Economy!!!  Look…normally I wouldn’t offer advice like this but, these are not normal times.  You would have a much better shot at getting HEALTH CONTROL if economic conditions were rosy and folks saw that economic growth was not only sustainable but might even be capable of producing a surplus every now and then.

American citizens want jobs and they want to say and believe they have confidence in government getting out-of-the-way of free-market principles and let Americans do what we do best – prosper!  Cut corporate tax rates and quit trying to implement policies and introducing regulations.  This will help alleviate the business community’s fears of YOU taking more of  what WE produce.  Cut personal income tax rates immediately and introduce a consumption-based (Fair Tax) tax system that is actually FAIR and implemented equally.  The unequal confiscation of OUR property by YOU is determined by YOU, not we, the people.  Is that how America was designed to function?

All of you with Progressive (to be read as statist or socialist) tendencies, you really aren’t that bright.  The arrogance is no longer capable of being cached by repetitive talking points and teleprompter readings to elementary school kids.  The perception-deception tactics are really getting old and we can see and smell them coming long before you actually trot their tired old bones out before us.  So…stop pushing so hard for CONTROL.   We are the one’s who are supposed to have that job and We are about to start pushing back.
